Inside, the airy, open-concept camp invites your group to gather and connect. Enjoy the unhurried pace of lake life—sip your morning coffee on the screened porch, spend a quiet afternoon paddling the calm cove, or gather around the lakeside fire table as the stars come out over Beech Hill Pond.

To keep your stay comfortable, without changing the camp’s original character, practical daily conveniences have been added: Wi-Fi, a Keurig Duo coffee maker, a modest TV for rainy days, and a Primo drinking water dispenser. It remains a real, unvarnished family camp—thoughtfully updated so you can focus on making memories on the water.

Living & Entertaining
The sunlit living room serves as the cozy heart of the camp, featuring soaring cathedral ceilings with visible timber rafters that highlight its original post-and-beam build. Deep, comfortable sofas and armchairs surround the original granite block fireplace—now preserved as a decorative centerpiece—creating an inviting spot to stretch out after a day on the lake, swap fishing stories, or open up a board game with the family.

On crisp Maine mornings or rainy afternoons, settle in with a warm drink or stream your favorite shows on the small Smart TV using the high-speed Wi-Fi.

Kitchen & Dining
Designed for easy vacation meals, the full camp kitchen comes equipped with a full-size top-freezer refrigerator, a four-burner electric stove and oven, cookware, and a hanging pot rack. Whether you are prepping quick trail snacks, brewing a pot of coffee with the Keurig Duo, or cooking up your fresh catch for a traditional Maine lobster dinner, you'll find all the essentials on hand—including a slow cooker, toaster, blender, and a dedicated Primo water dispenser for fresh drinking water.

A pass-through window right over the kitchen sink opens straight out to the screened porch, making it effortless to pass dishes out to the full picnic table while taking in water views on three sides. You can also gather at the indoor dining table set for six, or step onto the adjoining kitchen deck to grill up dinner on the 4-burner Dyna-Glo propane grill.

Bedrooms & Bathroom
Sleeping at Loonrise Point reflects classic, shared camp living, with traditional slide-open windows throughout that let you fall asleep to cool breezes and loon calls. On warmer summer days, a window AC unit in the main living space keeps the central cabin cool and comfortable.

Primary Bedroom: Features a full bed with a vintage wooden frame, dressers, and classic waterfowl artwork. (Note: The camp’s sole bathroom is accessed directly through this room.)

Second Bedroom: The most private room in the house, featuring full-height walls to the ceiling, a full bed, clothing rack, and dresser vanity with no bathroom pass-through traffic.

Screened Porch Sleeping Space: A full-size futon setup offering an unforgettable open-air sleeping experience surrounded by nature, complete with insertable plexiglass panels to lock out the elements if weather rolls in.

Living Area: A full pull-out sofa bed in the main room offers additional flexible sleeping space.

The Bathroom: The main cabin includes one full bathroom equipped with a vintage pedestal sink, a tub/shower combo, and essential toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and fluffy towels). Please note that the bathroom is located inside the primary bedroom and serves as the only bathroom on the property.

Workspace & Remote Work
If you need to touch base with the office or check the local trail weather, high-speed Wi-Fi covers the entire property. While there is no rigid office desk, the camp offers plenty of peaceful spots to pop open a laptop or jump on a Zoom call—whether you choose the indoor dining table, a quiet corner of the living room, or the screened porch picnic table with a lake breeze.

Outdoor Spaces & Waterfront
Life at Loonrise Point revolves entirely around the water and the private, wooded point that surrounds you on three sides. Because the camp sits tucked into its own peninsula, kids have a safe, natural playground to explore among the pines while parents relax with a clear view of the lake.

Your days here naturally split between two unique waterfront spots. On the protected cove side, step onto the seasonal dock to fish for Beech Hill Pond's famous lake trout and landlocked salmon, or head out for a calm paddle in the included kayaks, canoes, and paddle boat. If you are trailering your own boat, the public launch is right next door, making it effortless to put in and tie right up to your private dock.

Over on the opposite side of the point, a short path through the trees leads to a clear pebble and sandy beach cove with a gradual, gentle entry into the water—the perfect spot to grab a folding chair, kick back in the sun, and watch the kids swim.

When you aren't on the lake, outdoor living is built right into the cabin. Fire up the 4-burner Dyna-Glo grill on the kitchen deck, gather for family meals on the screened porch surrounded by water views, or spend starlit evenings around the lakeside propane fire table.

Parking & Note: The flat driveway easily accommodates multiple vehicles and boat trailers. (Please note: The classic boathouse on the property is currently non-operational and off-limits to guests for safety.)

GOOD TO KNOW
Dog Friendly: Dogs are warmly welcome to join the family vacation! (No other pets permitted).

Seasonal Comfort: While cool lake breezes keep the camp fresh, a window AC unit in the living area cools the cabin on warm summer days, and a small electric heater in the kitchen is available to warm up chilly mornings or late-season evenings.

Lake Gear Included: Paddles and a variety of adult and kid life jackets are provided for guest use with the kayaks, canoes, and paddle boat.

Fully Supplied: We provide all bed linens, bath towels, and dedicated beach towels. The kitchen is stocked with basic cooking spices, oils, dish soap, paper towels, and cleaning supplies, and the bathroom includes toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

Cell Service: Cell signal can be spotty depending on your carrier and the weather, making high-speed Wi-Fi your best connection for calls and messaging.

A TRUE 1960s MAINE CAMP EXPERIENCE
Loonrise Point was hand-built by the owners' grandparents over 60 years ago and has been purposefully preserved to keep its original, unvarnished character intact. It is a genuine, classic Maine lake camp—not a modern home or a newly renovated cabin. If you love rustic simplicity, history, and being immersed in nature, you will feel right at home. If you require central climate control, modern drywall, or pristine indoor finishes, this may not be the right fit for your group.

BATHROOM ACCESS & BEDROOM LAYOUT

Single Bathroom Location: The camp’s sole full bathroom is located directly inside the Primary Bedroom. Guests staying in other sleeping areas must walk through this bedroom to access it.

Partial Partition Walls: True to traditional camp construction, the interior partition walls in the Primary Bedroom do not extend all the way to the vaulted ceiling, meaning light and sound easily carry between rooms. (Note: The Second Bedroom features full-height walls to the ceiling for added privacy).

LAKE-FED WATER & VINTAGE PLUMBING

Non-Potable Tap Water: The camp utilizes a seasonal, lake-fed water system for sinks, showers, and flushing toilets. The tap water is non-potable. A dedicated Primo drinking water dispenser is provided for all cooking, coffee, and drinking water needs.

Rustic Utility Character: You will notice authentic seasonal details, including exposed above-ground exterior plumbing, mineral patina on the vintage pedestal sink, and low water pressure typical of lake pumps.

NO INSULATION, COOLING & HEATING

The cabin is uninsulated and open to the elements. Living room window AC keeps the central space comfortable on hot summer afternoons, while deep tree shade and lake breezes handle the rest.

A small electric heater is provided in the kitchen for crisp Maine mornings, but there is no central furnace or heat source.

EXPOSED WIRING & NATURE ON THE POINT

Unfinished Finishes: Electrical wiring and components are exposed and in full view throughout the cabin, reflecting authentic 1960s post-and-beam construction.

Living Among Nature: Sitting on a wooded point surrounded by forest and water, the camp has small cracks and natural openings. While we maintain the space carefully, an occasional bug, spider, or small outdoor critter may find its way inside.

SAFETY & PROPERTY NOTES

Decorative Fireplace: The original granite block fireplace is non-working and strictly decorative for guest safety. (An outdoor propane fire table is provided near the lake for evening fires!)

Off-Limits Boathouse: The historic boathouse on the property is non-operational and off-limits to guests.

Plexiglass Weather Panels: The screened porch includes insertable plexiglass panels to block out wind or rain during passing storms.

Spotty Cell Coverage: Cell service around Beech Hill Pond varies greatly by carrier and weather, though high-speed Wi-Fi covers the cabin dependably.

NEIGHBORHOOD HIGHLIGHTS

Loonrise Point sits on a private wooded point on Beech Hill Pond in rural Otis, Maine. Positioned away from coastal traffic to offer deep quiet and starry night skies, it is an ideal basecamp for both lake living and exploring Downeast Maine and Acadia.

Otis is a peaceful town with minimal commercial development. While the nearby Otis General Store ("The OG") is just 2 miles away for quick snacks and essentials, we strongly recommend stopping in Ellsworth (15–20 minutes away) to stock up on full groceries. The Ellsworth Walmart Supercenter is especially handy on your way in to pick up Maine fishing licenses (required for anyone 16 years of age and older), live bait, tackle, and camping gear.

FOR FISHING & BOATING: Beech Hill Pond is a premier 1,351-acre spring-fed coldwater fishery, famously home to Maine’s state record lake trout (31.5 lbs!). Actively stocked and managed for landlocked salmon, lake trout, brook trout, rainbow trout, and smallmouth bass, it offers exceptional angling right off the dock or by boat. With the public launch right next door and trailer parking on-site, bringing a boat is effortless. Canoes, kayaks, and a paddle boat are also provided for guest use.

Hand-built by our grandparents on this quiet, wooded peninsula, it’s the place where we all learned to paddle a canoe at sunrise, spent long afternoons fishing on Beech Hill Pond, gathered for family lobster bakes on the screened porch, and fell asleep to the soft calls of the loons.

When we decided to share our family camp with guests, we made a conscious promise to preserve its original soul. We kept the post-and-beam timbers, the original granite fireplace, and the open, airy layout that defines traditional Maine lake living. Rather than converting it into a suburban-style home, we simply introduced the modern touches that make vacationing easy—fast Wi-Fi, plush bedding, a well-stocked kitchen, and smooth self check-in.
